Your child has talents; these are the
skills he or she is born with.
Have you observed any?
Children have skills they are born with, it
is obvious on the way they reason, think and act.
They also develop some skills as they interact
with other children in the course of growth e.g. singing.
Either
innate or acquired, these skills have to be honed by practice and training.
We discovered that God uses the template of
skills to empower people. As much as He used children to make great changes to
nations, God identified the skills in them first and then took them through a
period of conventional/non conventional training.
·
Joseph: Had dreams, was trained in slavery and
prison.
·
Jacob: Could tend sheep, was trained in a
strange land.
·
David: Had skills in leadership, was trained in
the palace and in caves.
·
Samuel: Had prophetic skills was trained under
Eli in the midst of his erring children.
Many examples come to mind, but these children
all became outstanding examples to reckon with.
Identifying and tailoring your child’s
skill at an early age ensures great productivity and ability to steer them in
the right direction with focus before negative peers lead them astray.
As skilled as Samson was, he destroyed
himself because he did not submit himself to proper training, the vices had
him.
Parents are largely involved in the early
discovery of skills. These children will display these skills to you first, so
you can easily relate with them. Making plans to take them through training is vital. (Of course; not
through slavery and prison!) There are many resources available for training in
this modern day. More
structured environments for training and apprenticeship are springing up.
Why is training necessary?
As much as skills are great, having a skill
does not mean your child will be outstanding! You need to go the extra mile to
expose them to proper training.
Through training, children discover what is
unique about their skill and how best to strategize and get noticed by the
right clients who can exchange proper value for money in future.
They also develop strong leadership
relational skills and emotional intelligence which creates the thrust for the
vision.
They can properly craft their vision and
develop the resilience they need to make a success. (Resilience is never
developed in the comfort of the home)
"Will training not disturb my child's academics?" I can almost
hear you audibly through the prints.
Proper and structured training actually brings out the best in children
especially as the grapple with the preteen, teen and adolescent phase of
growth. Tailoring their skill makes them focussed and ready to achieve more in
life and even in their academics.
Optimise the holiday periods for
honing their skills and watch them blossom in their academics as they resume
school. Encourage them to render their services for free (we will talk about
money management skills for the appropriate age in upcoming articles) for now
and watch them gain satisfaction by adding value to others.
As we journey together through these
processes. I am excited knowing that the real change agents we need in this
nation today were born
right into your home.
Pay more attention to that child today and
discover our game changer’s skill, the schools alone cannot do this.
